Paint Correction
Introduction to Paint Correction
Paint correction involves meticulously removing surface imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, and marring from a vehicle's paintwork. This process not only enhances the vehicle's appearance but also prepares it for further protection like ceramic coatings.
Tools and Techniques
We use many different techniques depending on the car. One of our favourites is The RUPES' BigFoot Polishing System, which includes innovative tools like the Bigfoot LHR15 mark 3 random orbital which ensures high torque efficiency and superior control during polishing. This system allows for adjustable speeds and reduced vibrations, which is crucial for achieving a flawless finish without damaging the paint.
Types of Pads and Compounds
The choice of polishing pads and compounds significantly affects the outcome. RUPES offers a variety of pads:
- Foam Pads: Ideal for general polishing and come in different levels of abrasiveness from coarse to ultra-fine, suitable for various stages of paint correction.
- Wool and Microfiber Pads: These are used for more intense correction, capable of removing heavier defects.
Each pad type is designed to work in tandem with specific compounds such as RUPES D-A COARSE for cutting through deep defects, and D-A FINE for achieving a high-gloss finish.
Step-by-Step Process
- Assessment: Evaluate the condition of the paint and identify the type of defects.
- Washing: Thoroughly clean the vehicle to remove any surface dirt and debris.
- Polishing: Select the appropriate pad and compound. Start with a more abrasive product to remove the most significant defects and gradually move to finer products to refine the finish.
- Finishing: Use a fine polish to enhance gloss and ensure a swirl-free finish.
Benefits of Paint Correction
- Enhanced Gloss and Shine: Removing surface imperfections significantly boosts the paint's luster.
- Increased Protection: Smooth paint is more effective at repelling water and dirt, especially when combined with protective coatings.
- Longevity: Regular maintenance including paint correction can extend the life of the vehicle’s paint.
